Essie's Too Taboo + Fashion Playground.

I've been disappointed with Essie nail polish formulas as of late. They have been incredibly streaky, requiring more than usual coats to reach opacity. They are chipping within hours of wear, which might or might not be attributed to the 4-coat thickness on my nail and they have the dullness of 3-day old lacquer.

No More Film, Essie!

It's time to get digital. Seductive deep violet lacquer accentuates the positive and eliminates the negatives. this darkly alluring, purple hue makes a striking alternative to black nail polish. No More Film is a gorgeous shade. With only 2 coats my nails we're covered completely and opaquely. This is a streak free shade and the lacquer levels easily. This creamy purple is deep and riche; Very sexy. And very chippy. This is one of the chippiest shades of nail polish that I have ever applied. All of my nails started chipping by the end of day 1 and I am not the only one, other bloggers that I spoke with had the same issue with this particular lacquer. I'll give it another go and see if the addition of a top coat is all it needs if not, my 3 out of 5 star review stands. What has been your experience with No More Film ? xoxo •Nancy-Lee

Bouncer, It's Me, Essie!

From the 2013 Neons collection, Bouncer, It's me! an intensely vivid blue. Just like Shake Your Money Maker from the same collection, it is gel like in it's application and requires 3 coats for opacity. In the image below, I show you what 1 coat looks like. this polish is very streaky. It also takes a while to cure so I smudged my thumb nail. I added a 4th coat on my thumb to fix the oopsie before I took the picture on the left. This is a sexy shade of blue, almost cobalt. It dries with a matte, slightly dull finish so I topped it off with Hardwear by Butter London , a high shine, quick dry topcoat.

Shake Your Money Maker, Essie!!

Click image to enlarge for detail. Let me start by saying this is an amazing shade of green. The application of this lacquer was unlike any Essie shade I have applied, it was more like the consistency of a Deborah Lippmann ; jelly-like. Matte in the finish, the first coat of Shake Your Money Maker was very streaky. You are going to want to apply 3 thin strokes of this polish and build the coverage. It took 3 coats for me to achieve the level of opacity I was looking for. I added a Hardwear , a high-shine topcoat by Butter London to punch this shade up a notch and extend the wear. It lasted 2.5 days before it chipped and did not stain my nails upon removal 4 days after application. I started with Nail Foundation base coat by Butter London . It took a while for Shake Your Money Maker to cure. In the meantime, I smudged 4 nails. womp womp . This is a rich attention grabbing shade and I am looking forward to wearing it again. I rate Shake Your Money Maker 4 out of 5 stars. Reta...

You're Flirty for a First Timer, said Essie.

F resh. F un. F abulous. T ry something totally unexpected like this adorable newbie green nail lacquer and you'll want to do it again and again. How awesome is this m inty green ? It's just screaming to be paired with a pair of navy sailor pants a nd a white shirt with a pop of yellow from your choice in sho e. The second I saw this in CVS , I had to have it. I haven't purchase d Essie in a few mont hs so this was a nice treat and  fun switch up. And I didn't purchase it al one: Come Here! came with us. I started with Nail Foundation and added 2 coats of First Timer , with 2 minutes between coat 1 and 2. The finish is creamy and even without streaking and completely opaque. it dried quickly and evenl y and I topped it with Hard ware ensuring a shiny, protective t op seal. First Timer wore well for a 3-Free polish. It lasted 2.5 days before it showed a small chip . This is a gorgeous shade and I am glad that I was able to add i t to my co...

Turn on Stila's Chandelier and Come Here! exclaimed Essie.

I am having so much fun with nautical this year and all the shades that are generally associated with Spring time, like coral and poppy. Come here! is outrageously outspoken, this nearly neon coral nail polish makes it perfectly clear: nobody does it better. I start with Nailtiques Formula2 as my base coat and apply 2 coats of Come here! waiting 2 minutes between coats. I spice this look up with the addition of Chandelier by Stila Cosmetics on my ring finger . I t's such a glam accent. Identified as having a clear base with a strong silver presence and polychromatic assortment of glitter , 3 coats complete the opaque look I am going for. I apply this over Nailtiques alone, not on top of Come Here! I want a pure look not a top coat e ffect. I adore this look , the creamy and the shiny work so well toge ther . xoxo • Nancy-Lee

essie : Power Clutch Swatch and Review

I hate to admit that I actually forgot I had this shade. It happen s . I was cleaning out my beauty storage area in my home office and came across a miscellaneous bag of stuff. Inside was a full size bottle of Power Clutch , a striking deep grey-green, perfect for Winter. I start with 1 coat of Nailtiques Formula 2 followed by 2 coats of Power Clutch. The polish applies evenly, smoothly and streak-free. I top it with 1 coat of Butter LONDON Hardware quick dry topcoat.

essie : Miss Fancy Pants Swatch and Review

A refined, chic, greige. I couldn't have said it better myself. This is exactly what I would e nvision if you told me to mix beige and gray. With a creamy opaque finish Miss Fancy Pants covers evenly with only 2 coats. I have noticed that essie polishes tend to thicken during the application process. By the time I get to my 8th finger on coat one, the brush seems to be a tad goopy. Even when I close the bottle and wait a minute or two between coats, it is still thicker than when I started. With that being said, it has never wrecked my finish, the polish is always streak-free and even. I am only wearing two coat of Miss Fancy Pants - no base or top coat. This fabulous shade is the ultimate neutral; not nude and boring but not too industrial either. This full size glass bottle retails for $8.00 and is available at your favourite drugstores and chain-store salons. I rate Miss Fancy Pants 4.5 out of 5 stars . If you're looking for a different kind of neutral nail, this polish...

essie : Recessionista Swatch and Review

Spoiled once again from Klout Perks and essie with Recessionista. I first spotted this shade on Pinterest and has a good giggle when it was sent to me through a perk.

Essie: Bikini So Tiny

I purchased Bikini So Tiny during my last Ulta haul.  So Springy, so fabulous. I started off as I always do with 1 coat of Nail Foundation by butterLONDON & a 1 minute wait. I applied 3 coats of Bikini So Tiny with 2 minutes drying between each. When I do it again, I'll use only 2; it looked too thick with 3. I finished my mani with 1 coat of Hardware, also by butterLONDON .  From the 2012 Summer Collection, Bikini So Tiny is a lightly sparkling cornflower blue. I see more lavender than I do country kitchen. I am so in love with this shade that I contemplated wearing it again when I did my polish switch 4 days later! I rate this $8 essie a 4.5 out of 5 stars. Gorgeous! How about you, Beautiful? Do you use essie? xoxo •Nancy-Lee

Ulta: a Mini Haul

I had $3.00 to save in Ulta with a $15 purchase and I was in the market for Rainbow in the S-Kylie.  Sold out everywhere, it was selling on eBay for $25 a bottle. Yikes! I knew thatI would need 2 bottles of polish to push me over the edge, I focused on something Springy... I'm super excited that I was able to grab the last bottle of S-Kylie at my local store!  I'm so in love with aqua and lavender right now, Bikini So Tiny did the trick to fulfill my second bottle requirement!  It's a little more purple in real life.

Klout Perk: Essie Polish

I am diving into gorgeous colour with this obsession-worthy bright orange, which was a gift from Klout and Essie Polish.  They sent various full size bottles of the varnish to those considered influential in beauty.  I received "Fear or Desire" with the Beauty Army account and my alter-ego received Bikini So Tiny after that line in California Girls that Snoop Dog raps.. . which I have promised to send to @_Pretty_Pisces since she wasn't able to score one.   The 2012 Summer collection consists of: • Bikini So Tiny • Cascade Cool • All Tied Up • Off the Shoulder • Fear or Desire • Mojito Madness Did you receive one of these nail polishes? Which one? Are you on Klout? If not, here is your invite! Tweet me at @fashionCHICsta when you join and I will award you +K. xoxo •Nancy-Lee I was given a free product or sample because I'm a Klout Influencer.  I am under no obligation to receive this sample or talk about this company.  I get no addi...
